José Pedro Castro concluded his PhD in Biomedicine, University of Porto. He then joined Prof. Tilman Grune’s lab in the German Institute of Human Nutrition (Potsdam, Germany) to study how aging contributes to proteostasis loss and cellular dysfunction in cells and animal models. Then, José joined Prof. Vadim Gladyshev’s lab at Harvard Medical School (Boston, USA) after being awarded with the highly competitive DFG Max-Kade Foundation fellowship to study the biology of aging using systemic approaches.

There, he has been involved in several projects, such as fast muscle fibers aging, validating in mice drug candidates predicted by transcriptomic signatures for lifespan extension and aging and testing early life effects of Rapamycin on mouse healthspan and lifespan, distinct longevity mechanisms across and within species and their association with aging, and the role of aging in the formation of B cell lymphoma.
